Here we go...

We consider ourselves an active family and enjoy doing most everything together. Our family spends time playing games, watching movies and cooking together. Are we fit? Are we healthy? Not so much. I'd like to say we are, I'd really like to LOOK like we are. But deep down the truth lurks like a creeper on Facebook. We're not.

I'm the mom and I have good genes, thank you Grandma! My weight is not an issue for me (don't hate me just yet) my cholesterol on the other hand is "dangerously borderline-high" as the Dr put it. I have hypoglycemia which requires I eat high amounts of proteins which conflicts with my cholesterol problem. A girl can't win.

My husband (who I adore) does have issues with weight. It's not his fault. I take full responsibility for his weight gain after college. When we met he was a poster perfect specimen of football hotness. I still see him that way. Ozzie still looks like a football player, its just now he looks like he has his pads on. All the time. I took my mother's advice seriously when she told me the way to a man's heart was through his tummy. I've always cooked him extravagant full meals and we eat like royalty because we like food. Then we had kids and the pregnancy weight he generously took on my behalf has stayed with him.

Our children, Grace who is 10 and Faith who is 8, are perfect. I'm not just saying that because I'm the mom. I'm saying it because at 10 and 8, they really are perfect. I don't want to break them, ruin them, damage them or create the need for years of counseling as adults. They are both natural athletes (they get it from me) and we have always encouraged them in competitive gymnastics. They are on a break from the gym right now and it is up to us to keep their activity level high. We're failing.

My job as a mom is to teach my children what healthy living is. Healthy living is more then just what we eat, it's how we act and respond to what life throws at us. That's what this is all about. For the next six months we're committed as a family to explore living healthy, from the inside out. Getting our hearts and minds healthy and requiring our bodies to follow! Our girls have a head start, they are built of muscle. Ozzie and I, we're going to need a little more physical attention.

So, let's get this party started!
